Tumblr Is Already Marking Inoffensive Posts As Porn

Tumblr declared this week that it will prohibit all adult content on the website, beginning this month. Now, longtime consumers are complaining that the firm’s auto-detecting algorithms seem to be flagging incorrectly some inoffensive pictures as explicit.

Tumblr is offering consumers until the beginning date of the prohibition later this month to appeal, but the errors are resulting in concern that blanket prohibition on such content might sweep up inoffensive posts and carry on to boost a wedge among the Tumblr platform and creators. The algorithms were initially fraction of Safe Mode, which is now being restored with a full-site prohibition on adult material.

The ban is supposed to comprise all nudity and explicit sexual content, with a few exemptions such as nude classical statues and breastfeeding. Tumblr clarified its decision this week in clear terms, stating, “Adult material will no longer be permitted here. While we do not judge anybody for their desire to engage with, post, or view this content, it is time for us to modify our relation with it.”

On a similar note, earlier Alphabet Inc’s Google claimed that it took down 60 gaming apps after security company Check Point stated that it had found latest malicious software in the applications at Google Play Store accessible to both adults and children. The malicious software showed pornographic advertisements and attempted to trick consumers into purchasing premium offerings, as per Check Point.

“We have eliminated the apps from Play, stopped the accounts of the developers, and will carry on showing sturdy warnings to anybody that has downloaded them,” a spokesperson of Google claimed to the media in an interview. Named as “AdultSwine,” the virus conceals within the game applications that as per the information of Google Play claims have been installed 3–7 Million times, stated Check Point last week in blog post.
